Why You Should Still Go To Therapy As A Christian

The reason you keep going back there isn't because you're not healed; it's because you haven't unlearned the patterns you created.

The Bible talks about being transformed by the renewing of your mind. How do we do that? With his Word of course. But do you know how to do that? In counseling, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, there is this thing called Cognitive Restructuring. Cognitive Restructuring is identifying and challenging negative thoughts, which can ultimately help you change your negative thinking patterns.

2 Corinthians 10:5 talks about demolishing arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and taking captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. In Cognitive Restructuring we have something called "examining the evidence" which is like putting your thoughts on trial. Take the thought captive, examine the evidence for and against that thought, and replace it with the Word. Counseling, specifically Christian counseling, can help you to do just that.

You may also have things below the surface that counseling can help bring to light.

I am saying this with love: some of y'all are hardheaded. You ask God to reveal things to you that needs to be dealt with, but ignore everything he tells you and every sign he sends your way. Counseling will be able to help you recognize and address what you may be consciously or unconsciously running from.

"Well the Holy Spirit is my counselor.” Yes, but do you listen? Do you even know how to listen? Or is your past or current circumstances too loud to discern his voice?
